Crestfallen Beautiful album to relax to. Favorite track: So Long.
Jacob Simon
Jacob Simon thumbnail
Jacob Simon An earnest & elegant record. Succinct lyrics about love & loss are threaded through beautifully drawn out instrumental passages. The coda at the end of We Broke The Sun is particularly lonesome. New Design prove on "Far From Home" that they ought to be one of the first bands that come to mind in regard to Canadian post-rock. Favorite track: We Broke The Sun.

1.
You know, we're not so far off from home But we're just so used to lying down We let the rust set in our bones So we stare at the sky and drown I'll find my way back to you
2.
When everything we've ever known Seems so far away Lines of motion trace me back to you Had I known I would have shown my face But it had crossed my mind to stay down (It's too late, her mind's set I've never seen the ocean) Stay down It's always so cold, I wonder why I hoped that you would take my side Still waters run cold, I don't know why I would only ever take my side It's too late Her mind's set I've never seen the ocean
3.
You tried to save me Only to lose me Tried so hard to change me Only to forget me I'll daydream if I want to You tried when you loved me Only to lose me We drown in our dreams So we can feel free You tried when you loved me Only to forget me We did this to ourselves And there is only one way that this could end I'll daydream if I want to And it seems that I'm losing time You tried when you loved me Only to leave me We drown in our dreams And there is only one way that this could end You tried when you loved me

We run in circles Around the things we can't forget There's no room to breathe Your words like passing tones Changing to the beat Broken by letters on a page And still I move to the sound Say what you want I won't hold back on you There are no bridges here No passage to bring you home There are no bridges here No one to bring you home My heart in lockstep next to yours
6.
So Long 03:48
For a moment you slip through I'll chase you til I'm tired Back to the place I met you I'll stay here for a while I know you know I can't let go Of your hands Round my neck I'll hold my breath Hold me up in your tangled wire You'll catch me when I fall My legs have carried me this far And I can't turn back time I know you know I can't let go Of your hands Round my neck I'll hold my breath The world moved on While we fell asleep It's been so long But for you, I'll keep

I know it's something that you want me to do But I just can't believe in you I know its something that you want me to do But I just can't believe in you And now this house is not the home that we knew But I can't bring myself to move From the place I sit alone in my room Replaying memories of you I know it's something that you want me to do But I just can't believe in you I know it's something that we couldn't undo So I just can't believe in you I know its something that you want me to do But I just can't believe in you Just to find out what we already knew Of all the things that we've turned into I can't believe in you

We broke the sun
10.
A flash of memory takes me to the start These shoes fit my soles but not my heart Find your way back home I can't help but think we've got it all so wrong Find your way back home I can't pretend that I'll forget you
